Zoom, an AI-first work platform provider and a leader in telehealth, has unveiled the latest advancements in its healthcare innovation journey with the public beta of Zoom Workplace for Clinicians and select beta of Custom AI Companion for Healthcare. Zoom Workplace for Clinicians is designed to streamline clinical workflows — enabling doctors, nurses, and practitioners to dedicate more time to patient care and engagement, rather than spending valuable time on documentation and administrative tasks. Additionally, Zoom announced the select beta of Custom AI Companion for Healthcare, giving healthcare IT decision-makers the ability to customize AI Companion experiences through the forthcoming Zoom AI Studio.
“Zoom Workplace for Clinicians and Custom AI Companion for Healthcare are part of our continued commitment to driving innovation that further enhances patient care and boosts productivity, all while providing clinicians much-needed support,” said Ritu Mukherjee, Head of Product, Business Acceleration & Readiness at Zoom.
Improving care through innovation
Central to the Zoom Workplace for Clinicians offering is the clinical notes feature, designed to simplify documentation for providers. Last year, Zoom announced a partnership with Suki, a leader in AI technology for healthcare, that enables Zoom to capture patient visit notes for both telehealth and in-person engagements in standardized formats, such as SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan). This feature includes patient visit transcription, AI-generated clinical notes in standardized formats based on medical specialty, the ability for doctors to edit the notes, and seamless integration with select EHR systems.
Physicians currently spend on average 15.5 hours per week on administrative tasks. At Zoom, the goal is to significantly decrease this time so providers can focus less on paperwork and more on patients. Research shows that an AI-based clinical notes solution can help reduce physician note-taking by up to 70%, thereby enabling them to spend more time with patients.
Zoom Workplace for Clinicians will support both telehealth (virtual meetings) and in-person appointments (ambient meetings), providing more efficient pre-visit and post-visit workflows. Clinical notes can be generated simply by clicking on the ‘Clinical Notes’ icon in the Zoom Workplace app. Support for multiple healthcare specialties, various clinical note templates, and multi-language translations are also included. The solution reduces administrative overhead, allowing healthcare providers to maximize their time with patients.
Empowering healthcare providers with tailored AI solutions
Custom AI Companion for Healthcare, an add-on for Zoom Workplace for Healthcare, provides customized and advanced AI capabilities tailored for medical communications. Healthcare IT decision-makers and administrators can customize their organization’s AI Companion experiences within Zoom Workplace for Healthcare to better align with the unique needs of their organization’s medical practice and healthcare providers. Custom AI Companion for Healthcare provides medically trained automatic speech recognition (ASR), custom medical dictionaries and specialized medical terminology, customized meetings templates, contextual and accurate meeting summaries tailored for healthcare, connections to external data sources like EHRs and services from third-party apps, and more. This flexibility allows Zoom Workplace for Healthcare to be customized to fit healthcare institutions’ distinct medical requirements, enabling them to boost staff productivity and automate tasks via AI Companion.
These announcements build on Zoom’s existing commitment to reimagine work, patient care, and productivity across the industry. In addition to telehealth, where Zoom currently serves 36% of the market, Zoom’s healthcare offerings include enhancing staff collaboration with Zoom Workplace for Healthcare, streamlining patient engagement with Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone and Zoom Contact Center, and optimizing scheduling and shift communication for non-desked clinicians through Zoom Workplace for Frontline.
Zoom Workplace for Clinicians will be generally available at the end of the month, and Zoom Custom AI Companion for Healthcare will be generally available this summer.
