WVT COO Appointed to U.S. Naval Academy Foundation Board

David Cuthbert Among Youngest Executives to Serve on Trustees Board WARWICK, NY – November 14, 2011 – Warwick Valley Telephone Company (NASDAQ: WWVY), referred to as WVT Communications Group, the parent company of leading cloud communications pioneers, today announced that its Chief Operating Officer, David Cuthbert, age 37, was recently appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation’s Board of Trustees, making him one of the youngest Naval Academy graduates to serve on the board. The average age of trustee members characteristically falls between 60-70 years of age. Comprised of 250 trustees, the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation helps to advance the Naval Academy and the Naval Academy Alumni Association by providing private resources to achieve and maintain a broad range of mission-enhancing activities that support the nation’s premier leadership institution and its graduates. In order to be chosen for the Board of Trustees, an application process is required for qualified candidates. When an opening becomes available, active members nominate a candidate who is evaluated by the membership committee and elected by the trustees. “The Naval Academy and its foundation have provided me with the basis for my professional growth. My military experience helped me to become an effective leader, giving me levels of responsibility that I could not have obtained elsewhere. The experience also provided me with a great deal of responsibility in sophisticated environments and significantly prepared me for my executive roles in the business world,” said Cuthbert. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to reengage with the community and the Naval Academy family, and contribute back to its core mission – to develop leaders.” The mission of the foundation’s trustees is to ensure that candidates coming in fit the ideals of the academy from a physical, academic and leadership perspective. Additionally, trustees lend their financial support to the athletic and scholarship programs through annual contributions, assisting in additional external programs, large scale capital projects, and helping the representation of the Naval Academy on a broader scale. “Looking back, I realized that certain leadership capabilities I have gained were not just important to the military, but also to my ongoing personal development,” said Cuthbert, who joined hosted Unified Communications provider Alteva in 2006 as Director of Operations, and later appointed CEO in 2010 as part of a strategic move to keep the company on top in its industry. David’s leadership style combined with knowledge and acumen of the communications industry made him an ideal candidate for a senior executive level position when Alteva was acquired by WVT Communications Group in August 2011. “Because of the skill set and experience I have gained in my leadership roles, I can  provide my colleagues, business partners, customers, and others with a well rounded perspective. Especially with my current position and increased exposure within WVT Communications Group, my network and business connections have expanded greatly. The foundation can benefit by utilizing the business side of my network to help them further grow and develop, internally and in the public eye.” David is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a former Naval Special Operations Officer. In this capacity he led underwater and land bomb disposal teams domestically and abroad. In 2003, he was assigned the leadership responsibility of the Navy’s leading nuclear weapon casualty response detachment. His leadership, process innovation, and mission accomplishment earned him several high level unit and individual awards. He is an expert in critical process development and management and is a founding member of “The Captains,” a Naval Academy networking group focused on professional development, peer mentorship, and social responsibility. In addition to his position at WVT Communications Group, David is president of Alteva and USA Datanet. Prior to the acquisition of Alteva by WVT Communications Group, David was the Chief Executive Officer of Alteva. As part of the acquisition strategy, he was given the Chief Operating Officer position at WVT Communications Group with responsibility for daily operations throughout the Group. WVT Communications Group is a world technology leader in providing cloud-based Unified Communications (UC) solutions for small, medium and enterprise businesses. Founded in 1902, the company has continued to adapt and remain on the forefront of technology, chiseling its position among the most stable and respected communications vendors on the globe. Moving forward, they are forging the new model that communications providers, large and small, are striving to emulate. WVT Communications Group is merging new innovations, such as those from Alteva and USA Datanet, with proven technology from industry leaders like Microsoft, Cisco, BroadSoft, Panasonic, and Polycom to build the ideal hosting architecture for communications. Through its USA Datanet (targeting businesses under 35 employees), Alteva (targeting businesses over 35 employees and those with branch offices), and Warwick Valley Telephone (a highly respected traditional telecom provider turned premier regional broadband company) businesses, WVT Communications Group is enabling businesses of any size to communicate more efficiently with hassle-free communications tools.
