Palo Alto – May 7, 2018 – The Daily Journal has recognized Cooley partners Barbara Borden and Jessica Valenzuela Santamaria as Top Women Lawyers. This marks Borden’s third time being named to the elite annual report. The report highlights San Diego-based Borden for her successful 30-year career in high-stakes M&A. As co-chair of Cooley’s M&A group, Borden has led large, cross-practice teams on several high-value transactions, which, in the past two years alone, have totaled more than $15 billion. Recent deals include leading the teams advising BroadSoft on its $1.9 billion sale to Cisco Systems and Sucampo Pharmaceuticals on its $1.2 billion sale to Mallinckrodt. As the Daily Journal mentions, Valenzuela Santamaria strives to enable her clients to focus on driving their innovations through obtaining speedy and positive results during litigation. She is based in Palo Alto and her practice spans securities, corporate governance and other complex business litigation, including the defense of securities class actions, representing clients before the SEC, derivative suits and M&A-related class actions. Among Valenzuela Santamaria’s recent victories is her successful representation of Pure Storage in a securities class action. Borden and Valenzuela Santamaria are often recognized for their accomplishments, including being named to The Recorder’s Women Leaders in Tech Law list last year.
