tw telecom Expands Network Reach in Kansas City

Expansion Benefits Fast Growing Areas of North Kansas City, Riverside Horizons, as well as Overland Park and Cities in the State of Kansas tw Telecom logoKANSAS CITY, Mo., July 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --  tw telecom (NASDAQ: TWTC), a leading provider of Business Ethernet and networking solutions, today announced it is expanding its existing network in Kansas City.  The expansion will extend the company's reach into North Kansas City, Mo. and Overland Park, Kan., providing additional network diversity for customers wishing to cross the Missouri River into downtown Kansas City.  The project also includes expansion into several business communities located on both sides of the state line including Mission, Fairway, Olathe and Leawood, Kan. This market expansion meets enterprise customer demand for tw telecom's industry-leading portfolio of data and Internet services, including its innovative Business Ethernet and Intelligent Network capabilities. This effort also involved tw telecom working with Northpoint Development to help establish fiber infrastructure needed to deliver network services to Riverside Horizons, a new 300-acre industrial park at Interstate 635 and Missouri Highway 9 in North Kansas City. "Additional route diversity and increased capabilities provided by tw telecom's fiber expansion helps enhance the rapid growth that is occurring in the Riverside Horizons Business Park, as well as the Riverside area," stated Brent Miles, vice president, economic development, NorthPoint Development. The infrastructure diversity is a result of the installation of an expanded ring into North Kansas City, which includes diverse paths across the Missouri river to downtown Kansas City and the Riverside, Mo. area. "Customer demand – both new and existing – is fueling this growth in the northern areas of the Kansas City metro area, as well more redundant connectivity into business areas in the states of Missouri and Kansas," said Travis Noble, vice president and general manager, tw telecom Kansas City. "Not only will the expansion serve more customers throughout the Kansas City metro area, but also increase resiliency with our data center partners as well." The Kansas City expansion is part of a national multi-market effort by the company to expand its metro fiber footprint across the country this year.  As part of this effort, tw telecom has already entered into two new markets – Salt Lake City and Richmond, Va. – and plans to enter into three other new markets – Boston, Cleveland and Philadelphia – this year.  The company is also accelerating the density of its metro-fiber footprint in more than a third of its existing markets.  As a result, the company is expanding its sales force, including sales, support and operations personnel. tw telecom is the top ranked competitive provider of Business Ethernet and one of the top three providers of Ethernet throughout the U.S., according to leading industry analyst firm Vertical Systems Group.
