The Internet Association of Australia announces interconnect with via API PCCW Global

Australia’s largest Internet exchange operator attains global reach via PCCW Global’s Console Connect Software Defined Interconnection® (SDI®) platform

HKT (SEHK:6823) - Hong Kong, March 2, 2020 - PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, and the Internet Association of Australia (IAA), a leading non-profit organization operating Australia’s largest Internet exchange network, today announced their API interconnect and bilateral collaboration.

Under the new collaboration, customers of either PCCW Global’s Console Connect SDI® platform or IAA’s peering fabric IX Australia will be able to seamlessly access all network services on either carrier or fabric through their respective online portals. All IAA members on their national Internet exchange platform can now access Console Connect on-demand. PCCW Global has an extensive global network footprint, with points of presence worldwide and interconnections directly with key cloud, IX, IoT and SaaS partners worldwide, all of whom are accessible and available via the platform.

The IAA is a member-based association providing technical services including peering through its IX Australia network, the largest non-profit, carrier-neutral Internet exchange in Australia. With a membership comprising carriers, service providers, content providers, distributors, research and education, private enterprise and industry professionals, IAA is a vital nexus for the industry and driver of innovation.

The Console Connect SDI® platform spans over 128 data centers in more than 40 countries, and the number is growing with more connections being added continuously. Customers can purchase on-demand connectivity between key data centers, partners and all major cloud on-ramp operators, including AWS Direct Connect, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Google Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud and NAVER Business Platform. They can also directly connect with other key IX operators in Europe and the United States who are already on the platform, including players such as DE-CIX.

Mr. David Hooton, IAA Chair, said, “IAA is committed to the development and growth of the industry, both within Australia and internationally. Collaborating with PCCW Global on a project like this is beneficial to our members and the wider Internet community as it removes connection complexity, allowing opportunities to readily expand for global reach. This enables our members to deliver a tremendous expansion of services both into and out of Australia.”

Elaborating on the importance of the collaboration, Mr. Michael Glynn, Vice President of Digital Automated Innovation, PCCW Global, said, “Over the last six months, we have focused on building our core platform in Asia, North and South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. We have recently upgraded our backbone from Australia to Asia and the USA, and I am pleased that we can now welcome key partners to the platform in Australia.”

Mr. Glynn added, “Having a partner like the Internet Association of Australia enables its members to access our pay-as-you-go global uncontended network and extend their reach between key data centers, cloud services / partners or other users across our global platform. The collaboration will also, in time, facilitate extended reach for our global customers to more data centers in Australia and New Zealand.”

“Our strategy is to facilitate on-demand platforms for our partners to self provision services anywhere on our extensive uncontended global backbone which currently spans over 160 countries. With key SaaS, IoT, cloud, carrier and ICT partners, we are enabling a community of platforms to work together on one global real time ICT ecosystem,” he said.

Console Connect runs on top of the worldwide PCCW Global MPLS network, which spans over 160 countries and 3,000 cities and is physically separate to the public Internet, offering an uncontended, redundant core network with multiple diverse paths between countries.
