Ridgeland Becomes First Mississippi City to Qualify Six Areas for C Spire’s 1 Gbps Fiber to the Home Internet Technology Initiative

Madison County town turns another area “green” as part of nation’s first and only statewide rollout of 100 times faster Internet access Ridgeland, Mississippi (March 6, 2015) – C Spire announced today that homeowner pre-registration exceeded the required threshold in a sixth area of the city of Ridgeland this week – helping it qualify for the company’s ultra-fast 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) Fiber to the Home Internet service and related super HD TV and home phone services. Ridgeland’s Montrachet, Muirwood and Camden Park fiberhood reached its 35 percent pre-registration target Thursday and now joins the Bridgewater, Old Agency East, Highland Colony North, Birdlanes and Ann Smith fiberhoods, which qualified last year for the service. The city was one of the first to qualify for Internet access up to 100 times faster than the national average broadband speeds in 2014 along with four areas in the city of Starkville and the entire town of Quitman. C Spire turned up commercial service for the first residential customers in Quitman, Ridgeland and Starkville last November. Clinton qualified its first three areas earlier this year and Jackson is continuing efforts to qualify areas for the game-changing program. With service already available in the Bridgewater fiberhood of Ridgeland, construction is underway in the Old Agency East, Highland Colony North and Birdlanes fiberhoods. Work will begin later this month in the Ann Smith and Montrachet, Muirwood and Camden Park fiberhoods following the completion of detailed engineering plans and meetings with city officials. “We’re pleased that the city of Ridgeland is continuing to lead the way and that the excitement of Internet at the speed of light is continuing to grow there and in other Mississippi cities,” said Suzy Hays, senior vice president of Consumer Markets for C Spire. “Fiber to the home is a transformative technology that can serve as a platform for technology investment, economic growth and job creation.” Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee, whose city already has a reputation as Mississippi’s most tech-friendly community, said the latest progress shows that momentum is continuing as more residents learn about the opportunity to invest in the future. “It’s exciting to know that we have qualified another area of the city for this game-changing service,” McGee said. “I really believe we’re going to continue to see more areas qualify faster as we continue to share the opportunity with homeowners.” McGee said other parts of the city are making progress and are expected to qualify for the next-generation technology soon, including the Olde Towne and 51 North fiberhoods. “That’s a good thing because we want to ensure that this service is available in every area of our city where residents want it,” he added. Bridgewater residents can order service online at cspire.com/ridgeland or by calling toll-free 855.438.1009 FREE. Online sign-ups for service remain open in the Highland Colony North, Old Agency East, Ann Smith, Birdlanes and Montrachet, Muirwood and Camden Park fiberhoods – so homeowners still have time to make the first round of service activations in those areas. Residents in the remaining parts of Ridgeland that have yet to qualify can pre-register online and make a $10 refundable deposit to indicate their interest. For C Spire customers, the 1 Gbps Internet access is available for $70 a month, $90 a month for combined Internet and home phone, $130 a month for Internet and digital TV and $150 a month for the entire package of all three services. Non customers are required to pay an additional $10 a month. “We’re looking forward to delivering more of tomorrow’s technology to Ridgeland and these other Mississippi communities today because we know that this service has the power to transform communities and improve the quality of life for everyone,” Hays said. The service is expected to pave the way for improvements in the areas of healthcare, education, civic life, municipal services and economic development.
