PCCW Global wins AfricaCom Award with transformative digital solutions for Africa

HKT (SEHK:6823) - HONG KONG, November 18, 2016 - PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, won the Best Network Improvement Award at the AfricaCom Awards held on November 16 in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2016, PCCW Global proudly became the world’s first service provider to be accredited with MEF 100Gbps CE2.0 certification for E-Line and E-Access services on our SES (Ethernet over MPLS and VPLS) and DES (Ethernet over SDH) platforms. This represented a milestone for the industry because the previous upper limit for MEF CE2.0 services certification was 10Gbps. It was an important initiative enabling a 100Gbps connection across its African and global network, when the industry standard is far below this. PCCW Global plans for the long-term capacity requirements to meet the rising demand of businesses and communities across Africa. Mr. Mike van den Bergh, Chief Marketing Officer of PCCW Global, said, "We are delighted that our continued focus on delivering innovative and highly reliable services has been recognised yet again. These services are designed to enable service providers to extend their offerings into new markets and to build new and profitable revenue streams.” These innovations are part of an ongoing programme of strategic developments which continues to demonstrate PCCW Global’s ability to deliver digital solutions globally whilst maintaining our all-important passion for service excellence. PCCW Global’s network has recently been certified to offer all CE2.0 services and has now achieved historical milestones such as being the first CE2.0 certified network to offer services across continental boundaries and to offer 100Gbps services.
