CSPs continue to evolve their network in order to offer innovative and differentiating services. This is especially true for traditional fixed-line and mobile carriers like Telefónica Spain. As the CSP planned to expand its converged services, it looked to Oracle to help it create a more flexible and secure network with Oracle Communications Session Border Controller. Telefónica Spain chose the Oracle product because it enabled it to:
- Achieve faster time to market for services: The Oracle product offers the right mix of hardware and software to help create optimal performance for the individual services, while at the same time, simplifying network operations using a common, flexible software set across all services and platforms
- Optimize network capacity and growth: Telefónica Spain will have more flexibility in how it uses its network because of Oracle Communications Session Border Controller’s network-wide licensing model
- Increase network capabilities: The Oracle product meets Telefónica Spain’s high security standards, with its proven and rich feature set in the areas of transcoding, encryption and quality of service
- Prepare for network function virtualization (NFV): Oracle Communications Session Border Controller offers virtualization for deployment flexibility and network agility, helping to ease Telefónica’s transition as it deploys its NFV platform, UNICA
“We are committed to offering the kinds of innovative services that our customers are demanding. The first step is creating the modern and reliable network that can accommodate the connectivity that these services require,” said Ángel Blázquez Martín, Core Network Director, Telefónica Spain. “This is a significant evolution for us, and so we wanted the most proven technology and vendor for session border controls, which is why we chose Oracle. We are looking forward to expanding our existing collaborative relationship.” Oracle Communications Session Border Controller enables CSPs to deliver trusted, first-class real-time communications services across Internet Protocol (IP) network borders. The product is currently used for a variety of services and applications from Voice over IP (VoIP) to any services enabled by IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)—including VoLTE, video conferencing and calling, presence, instant messaging, IP television (IPTV), GSM Association’s IP Exchange (IPX), and femtocell or Wi-Fi–enabled fixed-mobile convergence. “As CSPs provide more converged communications services to their subscribers, flexibility and security in the network become even more critical,” said Doug Suriano, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications. “Oracle Communications Session Border Controller is proven to deliver a solution to this challenge to many CSPs around the world, including for Telefónica Spain.” Oracle offers a comprehensive and fully integrated stack of cloud applications and platform services.
