Highlights work with Major League Baseball® and success of the historic Mitel & MLB Present London Series 2019 September 9, 2020 - For the second year in a row, Mitel®, a global leader in business communications, and Major League Baseball (MLB) have scored a spot on the Sports Technology Awards shortlist for the Most Innovative Sports Partnership category. This year’s recognition spotlights the MLB & Mitel Present London Series 2019, an historic event which brought professional baseball games to Europe for the first time ever as part of a two-game series played at London Stadium. The largest ever attended MLB games played on international soil, the London Series, attracted nearly 120,000 attendees to watch old rivals Boston Red Sox™ and the New York Yankees™ compete on new ground. Activities included a three-day festival at London Yards, as well as community and youth events, and celebrity appearances. Since the games were official, regular season games between the teams, a Mitel system was used to record and monitor communications to ensure compliance with MLB regulations. The system further powered connections from the field to the Replay Review Center in New York City, from the clubhouse to the press box and from the dugout to the bullpen. “We’re proud to have played a part of this landmark event,” said Dave Silke, Chief Marketing Officer, Mitel. “As MLB’s Official Business Technology and Communications Partner, it’s been a true honor to have a relationship with them as both a sponsor and, more importantly, as a technology partner that is built into the fabric of the game itself. It’s rewarding to see our work with MLB recognized among the best of the best in the field of sports technology.” Mitel and MLB began their partnership in 2018 transforming dugout, bullpen and press box communications for all 30 MLB clubs into a unified system. The new system allows MLB to deliver a consistent user experience and ensure compliance with league regulations, regardless of game location. Mitel enabled on-field communications for all 2,430 games in each of the 2018 and 2019 seasons and powered over 2,500 replay reviews. “The range of technology showcased this year, as well as the caliber of organizations participating, has been outstanding. The Sports Technology Awards are a highly prized, internationally respected mark of excellence but this has only been achieved thanks to our amazingly knowledgeable, committed judges and the support of visionary brands across the global sector. Consequently, it is reasonable to claim that this shortlist is a comprehensive, unique and authoritative representation of what innovations are important in sport,” said Rebecca Hopkins, STA Group Chief Executive Officer.
