October 4, 2021 - Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck welcomes Joe Jaso as a policy director in its Government Relations Department based in Washington, D.C. Jaso’s experience as head of U.S. state government affairs at Viatris (formerly Mylan) further strengthens the firm’s growing nationwide state government relations practice. With over 20 years of experience in legislative affairs, external relations and politics at the federal, state and local levels, Jaso manages strategic planning and lobbying campaigns to help businesses turn policy into growth opportunities. At Mylan and then Viatris, he led the company’s multistate lobbying efforts and developed and implemented engagement strategies to establish a network of key policymakers throughout the United States. “Joe’s deep relationships with Republican governors across the country adds an essential element to our nationwide, bipartisan approach to state government relations,” said Doug Friednash, chair of Brownstein’s State Government Relations practice. “His extensive experience and unique ability to navigate a variety of issues at the local, state and federal levels make him a great addition to our experienced team.” Jaso also gained advocacy experience as vice president of federal affairs at McGuireWoods Consulting, where he developed successful strategies on behalf of multiple clients across various industries to advance legislative and business objectives on Capitol Hill and with Republican gubernatorial and legislative partisan and nonpartisan associations. As vice president at Dutko Worldwide, he served as Washington, D.C., director to Gov. Jim Douglas of Vermont during his tenure as National Governors Association (NGA) chairman and vice chairman. “I’m excited to join Brownstein’s distinguished team. The firm has built a great platform for government relations. My experience at both the state and federal levels fits perfectly with their bipartisan, all-in approach for clients,” said Jaso. Jaso received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and an MBA from Marymount University.
