Craig Hemenway and Benno Guggenheimer Named in Intellectual Asset Magazine’s 2021 Patent 1000 Rankings

July 27, 2021 - Shareholders Craig Hemenway and Benno Guggenheimer have been included in the 2021  Intellectual Asset Magazine ( IAM) Patent 1000 rankings. In addition, Brownstein was recognized by  IAM in the patent prosecution and intellectual property transactions categories. Hemenway, Brownstein’s lead patent attorney for high-tech matters and chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, has been recognized by  IAM each year since 2013 for both prosecution and transactions. He works with both startups and major corporations to manage complex portfolios of patent assets. A former control systems engineer dealing with complex electrical and mechanical systems, he masters mechanical and technical issues quickly—a skill that is essential when distilling a concept to its essence for patent applications. Guggenheimer has been ranked in  IAM’s prosecution category since 2020. With over 10 years of experience in research and product development, he brings his technical background to bear on his patent work for Fortune 500 companies. His practice includes patent prosecution and patent analysis, with a focus on electronic devices, software products, medical devices and automated systems. He works closely with his clients to develop and maintain patent portfolios that are relevant and commercially viable, and he routinely provides analysis for patent acquisitions, preparation for licensing and license enforcement for consumer electronics, software products and a variety of other technical areas. This year’s  IAM ranking commentary states, “Well versed in all facets of patent practice and in the mechanical, electrical and software arts, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck provides a reassuringly comprehensive offering to technology companies. Deriving strength from its proficiency not just in procuring patent rights, but also in monetising them, the firm makes it its mission to add bottom-line value.” Every year,  IAM compiles a list of the top 1,000 patent attorneys in the world and breaks it down by country and U.S. state, recommending those considered leaders in the field. The process involves extensive international research including interviews with more than 1,500 individuals to gather feedback from peers and clients with knowledge of the attorneys’ practices and markets.
