Cooley Supports ABA Diversity Resolution 113

Will Share Model Diversity Survey Results with Clients
Palo Alto – February 14, 2017 Cooley is pleased to support the American Bar Association’s Resolution 113, which aims to promote diversity in the legal profession by urging providers of legal services to expand and create opportunities at all levels of responsibility for diverse lawyers. As evidence of its support, Cooley completed the ABA Model Diversity Survey and is sharing the results with its clients. ABA created the survey as a strategic way to implement Resolution 113. It serves as a tool for law firms to share comparable information related to their diversity commitments and statistics, and as a tool for chief legal officers to use when considering diversity in deciding which firms to retain. “We are unwavering in our commitment to increasing diversity at Cooley and in the legal profession as a whole,” said Joe Conroy, Cooley’s chief executive officer. “We applaud the ABA for passing Resolution 113, which will undoubtedly serve as a useful tool for law firms and corporations alike as we work together to improve diversity at every level within our organizations.” “Ensuring equal opportunities for diverse lawyers and identifying and combating unconscious bias in the workplace is critically important to the continued success of our firm,” said DeAnna Allen, partner and chair of Cooley’s diversity committee. In 2017, Cooley will hold unconscious bias training for all lawyers and administrative management, led by renowned diversity and inclusion expert Vernā Myers. Cooley has been widely recognized for its diversity efforts by industry organizations and publications, including being named to Fortune’s lists of best workplaces for women, flexibility and parents, as well as Working Mother/Flex-Time Lawyers’ list of the best law firms for women. Cooley has also earned Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum for five consecutive years, as well as a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index.
