Palo Alto – September 25, 2018 – The Daily Journal recognized Cooley partners Heidi Keefe and Charlie Kim on its annual Top 100 Lawyers in California list. Kim is a four-time recipient of this honor. Keefe, based in Palo Alto, has 100+ patent cases and more than 20 years of experience under her belt, representing some of the most powerful tech companies in the world. As the Daily Journal notes, she has killed over 12 patents in infringement claims in the past year on behalf of her clients. Keefe explained to the Daily Journal that she deploys her “love of science – love of trying to figure out how things work – and trying to figure out a way to explain or teach it to people who don’t think they like technology” in her cases. She has been recognized by the Daily Journal as a Top IP Lawyer, a Top Woman Lawyer and, additionally, recently received the gold band distinction on IAM’s annual Patent 1000. Kim, co-chair of Cooley's global capital markets practice group, is a seasoned dealmaker and one of the nation’s leading capital markets lawyers. The Daily Journal highlights Kim’s recent successes, noting his counsel on nearly 30 deals so far this year, including one of the first major technology IPOs of 2018. He spoke to the Daily Journal about the firm’s innovative work with non-US companies accessing US capital markets in 2018 and on working at Cooley, noting the importance of “drawing on the deep wealth of expertise and experience of a wide range of specialists throughout the firm” as well as “a lot of great cross-office collaboration.” Reflecting on getting much of his motivation directly from his clients, Kim says, “playing a part in helping these companies impact society makes all the hard work worth it in my book.”
