Cooley Boosts Acclaimed Cyber, Data Protection and Privacy Team

Former US co-chairs of Norton Rose Fulbright’s data protection, privacy and cybersecurity practice group join Cooley
New York – January 23, 2018 – Cooley is further strengthening its global cyber, data protection and privacy team with the arrival of partners Boris Segalis and David Navetta. Segalis and Navetta are the former US co-chairs of Norton Rose Fulbright’s data protection, privacy and cybersecurity practice group. Also joining the group is special counsel Anthony Jannotta, previously a partner in Dentons’ public policy and regulation practice. “Cybersecurity and data privacy are board and C-suite level issues now, and the need for robust cyber and data protection capabilities has never been more acute,” said Cooley partner Michael Rhodes, co-chair of Cooley’s privacy & data protection and internet practice groups. “The arrival of Boris, David and Tony will help meet our clients’ growing needs across the spectrum of major transactional and regulatory engagements and data breach incident response capabilities. Together, they will bolster our formidable privacy and data breach litigation group.” Segalis counsels clients, from startups to Fortune 100 companies, on a broad range of privacy, information security, cybersecurity and information management issues. His practice addresses all aspects of the information management life cycle, including its collection, use, storage, disclosure and destruction, as well as the protection of the information and infrastructure supporting the data. Prior to joining Norton Rose Fulbright, Segalis practiced at two national firms, subsequently joining Navetta at InfoLawGroup LLP. He began his professional career in the aerospace industry as an engineer on the Space Shuttle. He is based in New York. Navetta focuses his practice on technology, privacy, information security and intellectual property law. Prior to joining Norton Rose Fulbright, he co-founded InfoLawGroup LLP, ranked as one of the top US privacy and data security law firms. Additionally, Navetta worked for more than three years in New York as assistant general counsel for American International Group’s eBusiness Risk Solutions Group. He served as co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Information Security Committee and chair of that committee’s Information Security Contracting & Risk Management Working Group. He has also co-chaired PCI’s Legal Risk and Liability Working Group. He is based in Colorado. Jannotta leads corporate responses to large-scale and complex national multistate investigations brought by state attorneys general. He focuses on navigating the legal, regulatory and legislative process across the country and has extensive experience in data breach, privacy, technology, consumer protection, healthcare fraud and antitrust matters.
