Company honored for its community support and investment in Hinds County city, including 4G LTE and the introduction of 1 Gbps Fiber to the Home and 100 times faster Internet access
Clinton, Mississippi (January 29, 2016) – C Spire received the 2015 Large Business of the Year award Thursday from the Clinton Chamber of Commerce for the telecom and technology company’s continuing support and investment in the Hinds County city. Dr. Jim Turcotte, vice president of enrollment services and Dean of Students at Mississippi College, presented the award to C Spire during the chamber’s annual awards banquet, citing the company’s stellar business practices, employee involvement and technology investment in the community. Turcotte, a past chamber president, praised C Spire for its support of the chamber, its community involvement, employee volunteerism and its ultra-fast 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) broadband Internet technology initiative in several Mississippi cities, including Clinton. “As a growing, progressive community, we appreciate C Spire’s support and their multi-million dollar investment in advanced technology for our city,” Turcotte said. “This infrastructure will enhance education and small business creation, attract high-tech businesses and new families while boosting home values and our overall quality of life.” Turcotte and local government and business leaders cited the promise of new jobs and a boost in the city’s tax base as key benefits from the deployment of fiber optic infrastructure and 4G LTE mobile broadband services. Clinton was one of the first cities to in Mississippi last year to qualify for Internet access up to 100 times faster than national average broadband speeds. In all, eight of the city’s 22 total fiberhoods have met their pre-registration requirements. Last-mile construction was completed and commercial service turned up in the first areas last year. “Fiber to the Home can be a transformative technology for communities, serving as a platform for innovation and a host of new Internet applications and experiences yet to be imagined,” said COO Kevin Hankins in accepting the award on behalf of C Spire. “We’re excited to partner with Clinton and other Mississippi cities and serve as a catalyst for technology investment, economic growth and job creation.” Other Mississippi cities participating in the Gigabit technology initiative include, Jackson, Madison, Ridgeland, Quitman, Starkville, Flora and Madison County. The 100 times faster Internet already has made C Spire the fastest Internet service provider in the state, according to Seattle-based Ookla, which measures broadband Internet connection speeds worldwide through its Speedtest.net app and website. The suite of services, which includes 100 times faster Gigabit Internet access, super HD TV and home phone, are competitively priced with additional discounts for C Spire Wireless customers. Online pre-registration remains open in Clinton and other Fiber to the Home communities in Mississippi.
